
Emergency medicine staff involved in treating victims of a mass shooting in July shared their stories in a captivating session.
When the 58 people wounded in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater shootings early on July 20 suddenly flooded the nearest emergency departments, it was the quick thinking and stellar teamwork of the emergency department staffs that helped limit the scope of the tragedy. As a testament to the excellent care the wounded received, just one of those patients died.
In a special session organized to examine the tragedy, “The Dark Night: Aurora Theater Shootings – Lessons Learned,” seven of the major participants involved in the medical response shared their experiences.
